What is Gabion?

A gabion is a large basket, made of Twin wire mesh fence panels. These panels are secured between metal profiles (gabion poles). These profiles are the post of the gabion fence. When the fence is sturdy, the gabion is filled with broken stones.

A gabion should not be confused with a stone basket. With a stone basket, the broken stones are enclosed in the fence. The baskets are also stacked on top of each other to make a fence. With a gabion, the fence is constructed from Twin wire mesh panels that are attached to each other with metal profiles. With a gabion, the top is also open.

Gabion fence complete package

We want ordering from Fenceonline to be as quick, clear and easy as possible. Then go for convenience and order a gabion via our handy configurator. Here you can completely personalize your gabion to your own needs. This configurator contains everything you need to install a complete gabion fencing. Handy for a large project in which you have to install multiple fences, for example.

The versatility of Gabions

A gabion may be rectangular, but if it is up to the countless possibilities, you can certainly think outside the box. A gabion is by definition not filled. It starts with the housing. You can leave this empty so that you can retain the view, for example. However, most people choose to fill the gabion. This makes the fence a lot sturdier and provides extra privacy because you cannot see through it. A gabion is generally filled with broken stones. These stones are large enough so that they do not fall out of the Gabion construction.

At Fenceonline you can find three variants / colours of broken stones:

  • Yorkshire broken stone for a beige/yellow shade.
  • Ardennes broken stone for a grey shade.
  • Rouge Belge broken stone for a red shade.

Did you know that a Gabion is not only used as a fence but also as a housing for a letterbox or fireplace? Or use different types of coloured broken stone for a beautiful design. Also be creative and combine a gabion fence with a wood-concrete fence or a Twin wire mesh fence. This way your garden really stands out!

Dimensions of gabions

A gabion is made of Twin wire mesh fence panels. These are each 2.5 metres wide as standard, but you can also have them shortened. The height of the fence varies between 80 and 180 cm with jumps of 20 cm. In our handy configurator you can indicate how long the fence should be per side.

Gabion posts

The gabion posts from Fenceonline are available in the colours galvanised or anthracite in various lengths up to 240 cm. The posts must be placed 60 cm in the ground so that the gabion posts are firmly in the ground. To prevent the gabion from sinking into the ground over time, the posts are reinforced with concrete mortar or quick-setting concrete.

To further reinforce the gabion, Fenceonline supplies spacers. The spacer is made of galvanised steel and ensures that the two sides of the gabion are held firmly together.

Garden gates

Fenceonline offers various Premium Garden Gates for gabions. These gates are made of our Twin wire mesh panels.

We have two different garden gates in our collection: single leaf garden gates and double leaf garden gates. Both versions have different widths.

  • The single garden gates are available in widths : 100 cm, 125 cm and 150 cm.
  • The double garden gates have the widths: 200 cm, 300 cm, 400 cm and 500 cm.

The garden gates at Fenceonline are galvanised and powder coated. This way, the garden gates are well protected against the elements and they last extra long.
